NEW DELHI, March 18 (Xinhua) -- At least seven people were killed and nearly a dozen others injured when an under-construction building collapsed in India's eastern state of West Bengal, a local cop confirmed to Xinhua over phone on Monday.

The incident occurred in the state's capital city of Kolkata, in the Garden Reach area.

The injured were admitted to a local hospital.

According to media reports, the building collapsed due to poor construction material being used in construction.

Two engineers involved in constructing the ill-fated building were booked for negligence, and a police case was filed against the promoters of the building, added the reports.
