Ford U.S. sales up 4.3 pct in January

CHICAGO, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- Ford Motor Company reported Friday that it sold 152,617 vehicles in the United States in January, up 4.3 percent year on year.

The Dearborn-based automaker attributed the good performance to record sales of Maverick compact pickup at 12,443 units, and trucks and vans overall sales above 80,000 vehicles.

Ford's overall hybrid sales went up 42.7 percent year on year to 11,157 units in January, but its all-electric vehicle sales dropped 10.9 percent to 4,674 units.

The automaker's U.S. market share hit 13.7 percent in January, up 0.3 percent from a year ago.

Toyota sold 143,241 vehicles in the United States in January, up 23.3 percent year on year, local media reported.
