LUANDA, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- The Lobito Port, the largest port in central Angola, processed a total of more than 1.33 million tons of various types of cargo in 2023, a decrease of 14.9 percent compared to 2022, local media reported on Monday.

According to the Angola Press Agency, citing a speech by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Lobito Port, Celso Rosas, 351 ships called at the Lobito Port in 2023. The total revenue dropped to 13.8 billion Kwanzas (about 16 million U.S. dollars), a 5.72 percent decline compared to 2022.

Rosas said that the revenue drop was due to changes in port tariffs, exchange rate fluctuations and the international situation affecting global maritime trade.

Located in Lobito, Benguela province, the Lobito Port sits nestled in a deep natural bay facing the Atlantic Ocean. It boasts two terminals: the multipurpose terminal with an annual cargo handling capacity of 600,000 tons and a container handling capacity of 250,000 TEU/year, and the ore terminal.
