Asia emerges as top destination for Botswana's exports in October 2023

GABORONE, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Botswana's latest international trade statistics report indicated on Monday that most of the country's exports were delivered to Asia in October 2023.

Asia, the Southern African Customs Union and the European Union represented 46.6 percent, 20.6 percent, and 3.8 percent of the total exports in October 2023, according to the country's data authority, Statistics Botswana.

The most exported commodities from Botswana in October were diamonds, copper, and machinery and electrical equipment, contributing 46.0 percent, 25.2 percent, and 9.8 percent to total exports, respectively.

The report also said that Botswana's merchandise exports in October were 2.7 billion pula (about 200 million U.S. dollars), reflecting a 31.6 percent decline from the previous month.

The United Arab Emirates, South Africa, China and Australia received exports, accounting for 21.9 percent, 18.9 percent, 12.8 percent, and 10.9 percent of the monthly total exports, respectively.
