BERLIN, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Crude steel production in Germany in 2023 fell by 4 percent year-on-year to 35.5 million tonnes due to the energy crisis and the weak economy, according to preliminary figures published by the German Steel Association on Tuesday.

It said that 2023 is set to be "one of the weakest years in terms of production." Following an 8 percent slump in 2022, production was only lower during the financial crisis back in 2009.
