NEW DELHI, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- At least four students were killed and dozens of others injured on Saturday in a stampede during a concert at a university in the southern Indian state of Kerala, officials said.

The stampede took place at the Cochin University of Science And Technology (CUSAT) in Ernakulam district, about 223 km north of Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala.

"Four people were found dead and many others got injured in the rush at Ernakulam CUSAT," local health minister Veena George said in a statement.

The injured students have been admitted to different hospitals.

Officials said the concert was part of a tech festival where singer Nikhita Gandhi was performing at an open-air auditorium on the campus.

Reports said entry was restricted to those holding passes but the situation took an ugly turn when it began raining. People waiting outside rushed into the auditorium seeking cover from the downpour, leading to the stampede.
