MADRID, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Spanish Ombudsman Angel Gabilondo on Friday submitted an independent report to the country's parliament on sexual abuse in Catholic institutions, estimating that around 440,000 people -- 1.13 percent of adult Spaniards -- were abused in their youth.

The report, which was commissioned by the Spanish Congress in 2022, is based on the testimonies of 487 victims, the responses by 8,000 adults to a poll, and the explanations provided by the Catholic Church.
