TEHRAN -- Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry discussed improving bilateral ties in New York, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

In a meeting on the sidelines of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday, the two foreign ministers held "comprehensive, positive and fruitful" talks on issues of common interests, according to a statement released by the Iranian ministry. (Iran-Egypt-Ties)

ANKARA -- Türkiye's central bank increased its policy interest rate by 500 basis points to 30 percent on Thursday and said it would continue monetary tightening.

The central bank's Monetary Policy Committee decided to continue the monetary tightening process to establish the disinflation course as soon as possible, to anchor inflation expectations, and to control the deterioration in pricing behavior, the central bank said in a statement. TEHRAN -- An Iranian court has sentenced to death the prime suspect in a "terrorist" attack in August on the Shah Cheragh shrine in the southern city of Shiraz, the judiciary-affiliated Mizan news agency reported on Thursday.

The main defendant, a Tajik national, has been given a double death sentence by a court in Shiraz, which is also the capital city of the southwestern province of Fars, Mizan quoted Fars Chief Justice Kazem Mousavi as saying. (Iran-Death Penalty-Shrine attack)

JERUSALEM -- Israel's army said on Thursday it struck two Syrian military structures near the border for their violation of the 1974 ceasefire agreement between the two countries.

In a rare statement acknowledging an Israeli attack in Syria, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said its tanks targeted the two temporary structures after troops identified them in the area of the security zone on Wednesday. (Israel-Syria-Strikes)
