Amazon rakes in record sales for Prime Day event

SAN FRANCISCO, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Amazon announced on Thursday that the first day of its Prime Day event marked the "single largest sales day in company history" and that the two-day event was the "biggest Prime Day ever."

Amazon said that shoppers purchased more than 375 million items during the two-day sale event on July 11 and 12, up from 300 million items sold last year.
