LOS ANGELES, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Dozens of people were injured Wednesday night as a powerful hailstorm struck a concert in the U.S. state of Colorado, authorities said.
Seven people were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries and a total of 80 to 90 people were treated on scene after the hailstorm at the concert by British singer Louis Tomlinson at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre, an open-air amphitheatre built into a rock structure in Morrison, about 27 kilometers southwest of Denver, the capital of Colorado, according to the West Metro Fire Rescue.
Officials said the injuries include cuts and broken bones.
Concertgoers scrambled for cover as hail blasted through the venue just after 9 p.m. Wednesday local time. Hail up to the size of tennis balls covered the ground, reported KUSA, a local television station affiliated with NBC.
The Red Rocks Amphitheatre announced later to postpone the concert due to the weather.
"Devastated about the show tonight, hope everyone's ok," Tomlinson wrote in a tweet, adding that "I'll be back! Even though we didn't play the show I felt all of your passion."
A severe thunderstorm watch in effect for much of eastern Colorado, including the Denver metro area, was extended until 4 a.m. Thursday local time as strong storms linger into the overnight hours, KUSA reported.
"We want to take a moment to acknowledge the severe weather event at Red Rocks last night and offer our sincere best wishes to everyone affected by last night's storms across Colorado," tweeted the Red Rocks Amphitheatre on Thursday morning.
