ST. PETERSBURG, May 30 (Xinhua) -- St. Petersburg's new master city plan involves the construction of a high-speed railway line, governor Alexander Beglov said.
Beglov said on the St. Petersburg channel of Radio Russia on Monday that the city is ready to implement this large-scale project.
The high-speed railroad is a specialized electrified double-track line, and trains can travel at speeds from 200 to 400 kilometers per hour. There are currently no such railway lines in Russia, and the Moscow-St. Petersburg route will be the first one. It is planned that trains will travel between the two cities in two hours and 15 minutes.
Oleg Belozerov, general director of Russian Railways, said on Sunday that the company is ready to build the high-speed railroad, with the first Russian train designed specifically for it scheduled to appear in 2027.
