DUBLIN, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Europe's largest budget airline Ryanair has ordered 300 new Boeing 737-MAX-10 aircraft worth over 40 billion U.S. dollars, announced the Ireland-headquartered airline on Tuesday.
The order was the largest one ever placed by an Irish company for U.S. manufactured goods, the company said in a statement.
Given the size and scale of the transaction, the deal is subject to approval at a shareholders' meeting scheduled in September, said Ryanair.
Half of the 300 aircraft ordered were firm orders, which meant that they could not be changed, said the airline, adding that the orders would be delivered between 2027 and 2033.
The phased deliveries would enable Ryanair to increase its annual traffic to 300 million passengers in 2034 from the present 168 million passengers, said the statement.
Boeing 737-MAX-10 aircraft offer 21 percent more seats, burn 20 percent less fuel and are 50 percent quieter than B737-NGs currently being used by Ryanair, it said.
