NAIROBI, March 7 (Xinhua) -- The Nairobi Security Exchange (NSE) said Tuesday it plans to introduce fractional shares trading by the end of 2023.

Geoffrey Odundo, chief executive officer of the exchange, told Xinhua in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, that fractional shares trading will permit investors to own a portion of a given stock thereby enabling more participants in the capital market.

"By lowering the amount of funds required to invest in securities, we will attract more retail investors," Odundo said.

He noted that fractional investing is also expected to increase the capital markets' liquidity as the stock market becomes more accessible to potential investors, adding that fractional shares investors will enjoy dividends from a particular stock in proportion to the percentage of shares owned.
