JOHANNESBURG, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- South Africa's Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy Gwede Mantashe said Monday that load shedding has led to a decline in mineral production.
South Africa experienced more power supply disruptions in 2022 and this led to a decline in mineral production across all commodities, he said during the 2023 Investing in African Mining Indaba, which is being held at the Cape Town International Convention Center.
The country's mining sector is facing increasing energy prices and logistical bottlenecks on the railways and ports, according to the minister, who noted that there was also a decline in the export of bulk commodities such as coal, iron ore, manganese and chrome.
The 2023 Investing in African Mining Indaba started on Monday and will end on Thursday, with attendees from governments, the business community and civil society of various African countries.
