U.S.-listed Chinese firms trade mostly higher

NEW YORK, Feb. 1 (Xinhua) -- U.S.-listed Chinese companies traded mostly higher on Wednesday, with nine of the top 10 stocks by weight in the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index ending the day on an upbeat note.

Shares of Baidu and Li Auto surged 13.05 percent and 5.78 percent, respectively, leading the advancers in the top 10 stocks.

Shares of BeiGene fell 0.67 percent, the lone decliner in the top 10 stocks.

Wall Street's major averages advanced on Wednesday, following a quarter-point rate hike by the Federal Reserve, as Fed Chair Jerome Powell acknowledged that inflation was starting to ease.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 6.92 points, or 0.02 percent, to 34,092.96. The S&P 500 added 42.61 points, or 1.05 percent, to 4,119.21. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 231.77 points, or 2 percent, to 11,816.32.

The Cboe Volatility Index, widely considered as the best fear gauge in the stock market, dipped 7.89 percent to 17.87.

As of Tuesday, the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index, which is designed to track the performance of the 50 largest Chinese companies listed on U.S. exchanges by total market cap, stood at 2,910.72, marking a 13.27-percent rise for January returns and a 13.27-percent increase for the year-to-date returns.
