JOHANNESBURG, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- A total of 2,881,887 travelers, including arrivals, departures and transits, went through South Africa's ports of entry or exit in December 2022, Statistics South Africa said Tuesday.

A comparison between the movements in December 2021 and December 2022 indicates that the volume of arrivals, departures and travelers in transit increased for both South African residents and foreign travelers, the department said in its Tourism and Migration report.

For foreign travelers, arrivals increased 179.8 percent in December year on year, departures increased 135.8 percent, and transits increased 175.1 percent.

In December, 64.2 percent of overseas tourists to South Africa were from Europe, while 19.7 percent were from North America, the report showed.
