DOHA, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- Uruguay and Ghana both went out of the World Cup on Friday despite Uruguay's 2-0 win, as South Korea beat Group H leaders Portugal 2-1 and advanced to the last 16 through more goals scored.
Uruguay's first goal came in the 26th minute when forward Giorgian de Arrascaeta followed up to head in after Luis Suarez's shot was saved. The second arrived just six minutes later as De Arrascaeta produced a crisp finish off a flowing move, which ended with a smart assist from Suarez.
Ghana should have been leading after the VAR awarded them a 19th-minute penalty, but Andre Ayew's tame effort was easily saved by Sergio Rochet.
Uruguay seemed happy to conserve their lead after the break, but when news of South Korea's winning goal came through, they found themselves scrambling desperately and unsuccessfully for the goal they needed to qualify.
