DAR ES SALAAM, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- At least three schoolgirls were killed on Wednesday night and 29 others were injured in a dormitory fire in Tanzania's northern region of Shinyanga, police said on Thursday.

Janeth Magomi, the Shinyanga regional police commander, said the fire razed a dormitory at Buhangija primary school in the Shinyanga municipality, killing three girls and injuring 29 others.

"The dormitory was gutted at around 11 p.m. local time when the girls were asleep," said Magomi.

In September 2020, 11 pupils were killed and seven others injured after a fire burnt a dormitory to ashes at a primary school in Tanzania's northwest region of Kagera.
