NAIROBI, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- A firm that runs the Chinese-built Nairobi Expressway in Kenya is holding a charity golf tournament in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, on Friday, with proceeds to be used for humanitarian assistance.

Moja Expressway Company, which has partnered with various institutions, in a notice invited the public to the eighth Charity Golf Cup that is being held in Nairobi.

"Moja Expressway invites you to the eighth Charity Golf Cup at the Royal Nairobi Golf Cup. Come and unwind as we exchange great ideas in a serene environment," said Wiltah Aoko, an after-sales service representative at the firm.

Besides enjoying golf, participants also have a chance to register for electronic toll collection (ETC) cards for the smooth use of the 27-km Nairobi Expressway.

Aoko said participants at the charity event pay a minimum fee of 3,000 shillings (about 25 U.S. dollars) while spectators pay 16.5 dollars. "This is a charity event, and all proceeds go to the Kenya Red Cross," she said.

The humanitarian organization is currently spearheading efforts to save thousands of people who are facing hunger due to ongoing drought.

More than 4 million people in Kenya's arid and semi-arid areas have been ravaged by drought, according to the National Drought and Management Authority.

Other sponsors of the golf tournament include East African Portland Cement, Ecobank, Equity Bank, Nairobi Expressway Company, CFAO Motors, and Jibu Brand House.
