CHICAGO, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Ford Motor Co. announced on its website on Wednesday that it sold 163,942 new vehicles in the United States in July, up 36.6 percent year on year.

To be specific, the U.S. automaker sold 87,335 trucks, up 20.3 percent year on year; 73,234 SUVs, up 69.9 percent; and 7,669 EVs, up 168.7 percent.

For the second month in a row Ford is the only major automaker to produce sales gains, against an industry sales drop of 10.5 percent. The Dearborn-based automaker attributed it to improved inventory flow.

The automaker also cited growing sales of its hybrid vehicle lineup, which rose more than 35 percent in July. Ford was the No. 2 hybrid vehicle seller behind Toyota Motor Corp.

Ford total market share hit 13.9 percent, up 1 percentage point from June and 4.8 percentage points over a year ago.
