MEXICO CITY, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Mexico has recorded 11 weeks of an upward trend in COVID-19 cases, but the rate of hospitalizations and deaths is low compared to previous periods, Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion Hugo Lopez-Gatell said on Tuesday.
Hospital occupancy in COVID units is currently 10 percent, with 3 percent in intensive care units, said Lopez-Gatell.
Meanwhile, the daily average number of deaths associated with the disease is currently 12, with a high incidence rate among people with chronic diseases, seniors and the unvaccinated.
"This strong tendency continues, with cases increasing more significantly than hospitalizations," Lopez-Gatell told journalists at the National Palace in Mexico City.
To date, 77 percent of the population 5 years and older is vaccinated against COVID-19.
As of Monday, Mexico had accumulated 6,093,835 COVID-19 cases and 325,793 deaths.
