Multiple people shot during Independence Day parade in suburbs of U.S. Chicago

CHICAGO, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Multiple people were shot as gunfire disrupted an Independence Day parade that kicked off Monday morning in Highland Park in the northern suburbs of Chicago in the U.S. state of Illinois.

Three bloodied bodies were covered by blankets and five others wounded and bloodied, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Monday.

People fled the parade route, and parade-goers left behind chairs, baby strollers and blankets as they sought cover.

Police are patrolling the area with rifles, looking for whoever fired the shots, according to the report.
