COLOMBO, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- A new variant of COVID-19 virus, which is similar to the virus spreading rapidly in several countries, including Britain, has been detected in Sri Lanka, local media reported on Tuesday.
Director of the Department of Immunology and Molecular Medicine of Sri Jayewardenepura University, Dr. Chandima Jeewandara, told journalists that the new variant (B.1.258 lineage) is different from the strain previously found in Sri Lanka and also it is different from the strain found in Britain and South Africa.
