CAIRO, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- The total number of COVID-19 cases in Turkey approached 2.3 million on Thursday after 12,171 new infections were recorded. Meanwhile, the tally of COVID-19 infections in Iraq surpassed 600,000 after 790 new cases were added.
The total COVID-19 cases in Turkey, the hardest-hit country in the Middle East, surged to 2,296,102, while its death toll from the infectious disease rose by 194 to 22,264. The tally of recoveries in Turkey increased by 8,211 to 2,172,251.
