LONDON, Jan. 6 (Xinhua) -- British stocks rose Wednesday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index up by 3.47 percent, or 229.61 points, to close at 6,841.86 points.
HSBC Holdings, a British multinational investment bank and financial services holding company, soared 9.92 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. Standard Chartered and Barclays increased by 9.38 percent and 8.27 percent, respectively.
