German shares edge down Wednesday

FRANKFURT, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- German stocks edged down on Wednesday, with the benchmark DAX index down 42.60 points, or 0.31 percent, to close at 13,718.78 points.

Aircraft engine manufacturer MTU Aero lost 1.98 percent, the top loser among the blue chips, followed by multinational building materials company HeidelbergCement and European health care company Fresenius SE which lost 1.42 percent and 1.28 percent respectively.

Pharmaceutical company Merck gained 1.52 percent, becoming the top gainer. European multinational online food-delivery service Delivery Hero and multinational software corporation SAP rose 1.20 percent and 0.39 percent respectively.

SAP was the most traded share with a turnover of 163.83 million euros (201.20 million U.S. dollars).

China's Haier, a leading global household appliances manufacturer listed in Frankfurt in 2018, lost 0.74 percent to close at 1.60 euros per share on Wednesday.
