NEW YORK, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- New York City's COVID-19 infection rate on a seven-day average went down to 4.98 percent, after lingering above the level of 5 percent for 4 days consecutively, Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted on Monday, as the public school campuses reopened for 3-K, Pre-K and K-5 students.
The rate topped 3 percent on Nov. 18, climbed over 4 percent on Nov. 30, and then surpassed 5 percent on Dec. 3. Three percent is deemed by the municipal government as a threshold for a second wave of the pandemic.
