Chile again sees over 1,000 daily cases of COVID-19

SANTIAGO, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) -- Chile on Wednesday again reported more than 1,000 daily cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection, with 1,004 new cases raising the total to 544,092.

In the same 24-hour period, seven more patients died of the disease, bringing the death toll to 15,138, according to the Health Ministry.

Of the total caseload, 520,180 people have recovered from the virus.

Currently 700 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in intensive care units, including 540 on ventilators and 69 in critical condition.

Chile remains under a state of catastrophe, with a nighttime curfew to reduce circulation and the spread of the virus. However, several cities have moved to relax lockdown measures, while others, mainly in the south, have had to revert to stricter lockdowns due to a rise in infections.

On Monday, the country reopened its borders to foreign visitors in a bid to reactivate tourism.
