Shootings in NYC nearly double as arrests for serious crimes fall

NEW YORK, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Shootings in New York City have nearly doubled this year, while arrests for major crimes have decreased, The New York Times on Wednesday quoted New York Police Department (NYPD) sources as saying.

"From Jan 1. through Sunday, the city has recorded 1,359 shootings, an increase of nearly 95 percent from the 698 in the same period last year. The number of shooting victims rose to 1,667 from 828," it reported.
