LONDON, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- British stocks rose on Wednesday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index up by 1.67 percent, or 96.49 points, to close at 5,883.26 points.
Astrazeneca, a multinational pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical company, soared 6.88 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. Avast and Ocado Group increased by 6.29 percent and 5.39 percent, respectively.
Standard Chartered, a British multinational banking and financial services company, was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 4.72 percent. CRH, an international group of diversified building materials businesses, dropped 4.41 percent. HSBC Holdings, a banking and financial services company, fell 4.15 percent.
