British stocks down 0.58 pct Wednesday


LONDON, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- British stocks decreased on Wednesday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index down by 0.58 percent, or 34.65 points, to close at 5,935.06 points.

Just Eat Takeaway, an online food order and delivery service, soared 6.36 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. Polymetal International and DS Smith increased by 2.58 percent and 2.40 percent, respectively.

Standard Chartered, a British multinational banking and financial services company, was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 4.47 percent. Astrazeneca, a multinational pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical company, dropped 3.15 percent. HSBC Holdings, a multinational investment bank and financial services holding company, fell 2.82 percent.
