UK major trade union seeks gov't job support to avert "mass unemployment"

LONDON, Oct.8 (Xinhua) -- A major British trade union on Thursday urged the government to prevent massive layoffs by offering more job supporting measures in areas facing "renewed lockdowns" amid rising coronavirus fear.

The Trades Union Congress (TUC), representing the majority of trade unions in Britain, said the government must bolster financial assistances "in the event of more stringent restrictions in local areas, which require businesses to close".
