U.S. Texas governor issues disaster declaration in response to Tropical Storm Beta

HOUSTON, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Governor of the U.S. state of Texas Greg Abbott on Monday issued a disaster declaration for the state's 29 counties in response to Tropical Storm Beta as it draws closer to the Gulf Coast.

Expected to make landfall Monday evening, Beta has already caused storm surge and damaging winds in the Texas coastal area. According to the forecast, it has the potential to cause widespread flooding as it continues to approach the Texas Coast.
