PHNOM PENH -- Cambodia on Friday lashed out at two U.S. politicians for interfering in the country's domestic affairs after they called for the release of jailed activists.

YANGON -- The death toll of COVID-19 recorded 70 with new deaths on Friday night, according to a release from the Health and Sports Ministry.

HONG KONG -- The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government said on Friday that it is stepping up its infection-control measures as the next wave of COVID-19 infections, which are expected to hit in the winter, could be even more serious than the recent third wave.

Secretary for Food and Health of the HKSAR government Sophia Chan said high-risk groups and high-exposure groups, as well as workers at wet markets and in the transport sector, and those working at container terminal and slaughterhouses, will be tested regularly for COVID-19. (Hong Kong-COVID-19)

JAKARTA -- The Indonesian government said there are more than 1,000 clusters of the COVID-19 infections across the country, the government's spokesperson for the COVID-19 Mitigation, Reisa Broto Asmoro said.

The figure was obtained from a tracking process by the government though its regional health offices and health community centers on all the confirmed COVID-19 patients, Asmoro told a press conference at the presidential office here on Friday. (Indonesia-COVID-19)

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistani customs in a joint action with Afghan customs authorities thwarted an attempt to smuggle tonnes of iodine, which can be used for the synthesis of drugs, an official said on Friday.

Pakistan Customs Port Control Unit in the country's southern port city of Karachi has conducted the operation with Afghan customs officials on credible information that a container en route to Afghanistan from the United Arab Emirates through Pakistan, carried a huge quantity of contraband, an official from Pakistan customs told Xinhua.
