JERUSALEM, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Israel's Weizmann Institute of Science (WIS) and Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have agreed to cooperate in Artificial Intelligence (AI) research.
The two sides signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), which was made after the two countries agreed to fully normalize their relations in mid-August, said WIS in a statement on Sunday.
A delegation headed by WIS President Alon Chen is expected to fly to UAE's capital Abu Dhabi next week to finalize the details of the MoU and discuss its implementation.
The MoU covers a range of opportunities for collaboration, including student fellow exchange programs, conferences and seminars, exchange between researchers, sharing of computing resource and the establishment of a joint virtual AI institute.
The collaboration will advance the institute's flagship project and the AI Enterprise for Scientific Discovery, which will build on WIS's prominence in mathematics and computer science.
The project is meant to activate the potential of AI to speed knowledge acquisition in data-heavy endeavors like biomedicine, environmental research, chemistry and astrophysics.
