LONDON, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) -- British stocks rose on Wednesday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index up by 1.35 percent, or 78.90 points, to close at 5,940.95 points.
Barratt Developments, one of the largest residential property development companies in the UK, soared 8.70 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. Taylor Wimpey and Persimmon increased by 7.14 percent and 5.64 percent, respectively.
