OTTAWA, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Wednesday announced over 2 billion Canadian dollars (about 1.52 billion U.S. dollars) in funding to help provinces and territories in the country reopen their schools safely.

Less than two weeks before most Canadian schools are set to reopen for the fall term, Trudeau's announcement came as some provinces are reporting increases in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases.
