Minister of India's Uttar Pradesh dies due to COVID-19


NEW DELHI, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- A local minister northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh Chetan Chauhan passed away Sunday due to COVID-19.

The 73-year-old Chauhan was a former cricketer.

According to officials, he died of complications related to COVID-19 after being put on life support for nearly 36 hours.

He was serving as Minister of sainik (soldier) welfare, home guards, and civil security in the Uttar Pradesh cabinet.
