Roundup: COVID-19 cases nudge 270,000 in Iran; Israel imposes new lockdown amid pandemic resurgence

CAIRO, July 17 (Xinhua) -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 269,440 in Iran on Friday. Meanwhile, Israel imposed a new weekend closure to curb a resurgence of the pandemic with its confirmed cases going beyond 47,000.

Iran, which has re-emerged as the hardest-hit country in the Middle East region, reported 2,379 new cases, brining the total number of infections to 269,440.
