(Reuters) - Syrian Kurdish forces, scrambling to push back a Turkish invasion, have reached a deal with Damascus for Syrian army troops to deploy near the Turkish border, throwing into question the future of their region.
The deal is intended to halt a Turkish offensive into northeast Syria after U.S. troops began vacating the area, in a sudden policy shift by President Donald Trump that has been widely criticised in Washington as a betrayal of America's Kurdish allies.
