VANCOUVER: A group of graduating high school students were thrilled when they managed to get Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to take a photo with them.
Trudeau was running along the Stanley Park seawall when the students from Vancouver College and neighbouring high schools realised who had just jogged past.
"We were just taking photos and hanging around talking, and then Trudeau, he just comes running," student Constantine Maragos told Canada's CBC News.
"At first, we were like, 'Why is the prime minister of Canada running the seawall? And then we started yelling for Trudeau to get in the photo."
The students crowded around Trudeau for a group photo that appeared on another student's Instagram feed.
The Prime Minister's official photographer Adam Scotti later posted an account of the incident on Instagram.
"This is part of a little side project to document the places we go and the runs we go on," he wrote on Sunday. "Sometimes it's just scenic shots, other times, it's running past an unsuspecting grad group..."
He added: "I always love to watch people's faces as they realise who just ran past, often several paces after he has passed."
I run. Tommy runs. The boss runs. This is part of a little side project to document the places we go and the runs we go on. Sometimes it's just scenic shots, other times, it's running past an unsuspecting grad group - half clued in, others were more distracted by the ginger with the camera. A memorable moment for all. I always love to watch people's faces as they realise who just ran past, often several paces after he has passed. #cdngingersnaps #stanleypark #vancouver #cdnpoli @canadianrunning
Scotti posted four photos which showed Trudeau running past the students, the students suddenly realising who was sprinting past them, then everyone coming together for a photo.
This is not the first time Trudeau has photobombed unsuspecting people at public places.
Last August, he was casually standing with a surf board, shirtless, watching a wedding procession in Tofino, British Columbia when photographer Marnie Recker caught a photo of him standing behind the couple.
Oddly, he was seen shirtless in another photo that same month, after 13-year-old Alexander Godby and his family bumped into Mr Trudeau while hiking in Quebec's Gatineau Park. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network
