(Reuters) - Former U.S. president George W. Bush has described the political climate in Washington as "pretty ugly" under Donald Trump's presidency but expressed optimism the United States would pull through despite the divisive political discourse.

"I don't like the racism and I don't like the name-calling and I don't like the people feeling alienated," Bush, 70, said in an interview with People magazine that will hit newsstands on Friday.
