Polish athlete auctions Olympic silver medal to save cancer-affected three-year-old

WARSAW: A Polish discus thrower has sold his silver medal from the Rio 2016 Olympics to help a three-year-old boy with eye cancer, reports China's Xinhua news agency.

"I did everything in my power to get it (a glod medal). Unfortunately, this time it didn't work. But fate gave me a chance to increase the value of my 'Silver'," wrote Piotr Malachowski on Facebook.
