SYDNEY (Reuters) - Former Australian prime minister Gough Whitlam, who led his country's early engagement with China in the 1970s before being controversially removed from office, has died at 98, his children said in a statement on Tuesday.
Whitlam, Australia's 21st prime minister, ruled from 1972-1975 after leading the Labor Party to its first election win in 23 years.
