MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke with Ukrainian leader Petro Poroshenko by telephone about a peaceful resolution to the crisis in eastern Ukraine, where government troops are fighting pro-Russian rebels, the Kremlin said on Monday.
The conversation allowed the leaders to discuss "steps that will facilitate a peaceful resolution to the situation", the statement said, without giving further details.
