ROME (Reuters) - Italy's divided parties failed to overcome their differences in a vote for parliamentary speakers on Saturday, deepening the stalemate after last month's deadlocked elections and raising the prospect of a return to the polls within months.
Italy has been caught in an impasse since the election in February that saw the centre-left alliance of Pier Luigi Bersani gain a lower house majority but miss the numbers needed to control the Senate as well and form a government.
