KINSHASA (Reuters) - The main challenger in Democratic Republic of Congo's election declared himself president on Friday and poured scorn over official results handing victory to the incumbent, Joseph Kabila.
Columns of black smoke rose over parts of the mostly pro-opposition capital Kinshasa, where riot police had been deployed in advance, as worries mounted that a post-election dispute could renew conflict in the war-scarred central African state.
