Fourteen Syrian protesters killed on Ramadan Friday

AMMAN (Reuters) - Syrian security forces killed at least 14 civilians in attacks on tens of thousands of protesters who marched against the rule of President Bashar al-Assad on the first Friday of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, activists said.

Local Coordination Committees, an activists' organisation, said seven of the protesters were killed in the capital's eastern suburb of Erbin, one in Mouadhamiya, a southwestern suburb 30 km (19 miles) from the occupied Golan Heights, and three protesters in the town of Dumair north of the capital.
