WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. Senate Finance Committee agreed on Thursday to allow states to negotiate health plans on behalf of poorer residents as part of a sweeping healthcare overhaul sought by President Barack Obama.
The panel voted 12 to 11 in favor of a proposal by Democratic Senator Maria Cantwell who argued that states could negotiate better health plan deals for those on low incomes.
