ALBANY, Calif. (Reuters) - A light 4.2 magnitude earthquake hit northern California near Oakland early on Friday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, causing shaking that woke up many residents but no significant damage.
The quake hit at 4:42 PDT (1142 GMT) four miles northeast of Oakland at a shallow depth of just 3.6 miles, but the only damage local media reported was several broken panes of glass in a Berkeley supermarket and some shattered dishes.
